Kano State Government has renewed its commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children through a reinforced partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this known on Friday while receiving UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, at the Kano Government House.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the collaboration aims to overhaul basic education in the state by enhancing infrastructure, providing school furniture and learning materials, and improving the learning environment.

“Our goal is clear and urgent — get every child off the street and into school,” Governor Yusuf said.

Dr. Garba praised the state’s progress in education reforms and expressed optimism that, with continued collaboration, Kano could become a model for reversing illiteracy nationwide.

“Kano is making bold moves. With the governor’s leadership and UBEC’s support, we are confident that the rate of out-of-school children will drop significantly,” she stated.

The meeting represents a key milestone in strengthening federal-state cooperation to advance basic education in Nigeria.
