Kaduna Health Workers Jubilate as Sani Approves New Salary Structure

Health workers across Kaduna State were in jubilant mood on Wednesday after Governor Uba Sani approved the implementation of the 2024 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) alongside hazard allowances, effective September 2025.
The announcement was made at a press briefing in Kaduna by the Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Kaduna State chapter, Ishaku Yakubu, who described the development as “long overdue” and a major win for the health workforce.
“This is quite commendable and timely because it is something we have been struggling to get for about three to four years. At some points, we had to embark on warning strikes and even indefinite strike actions to press home our demands with the past government,” Yakubu said.
He added that the approval would not only improve welfare but also boost morale and enhance service delivery in hospitals and public health facilities.
Health workers in Kaduna have for years staged multiple industrial actions over poor welfare, unpaid entitlements, and lack of adequate hazard allowances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline workers frequently protested what they described as “abandonment,” despite the risks they faced.
