JONATHAN SOUNDS ALARM: NIGERIA’S FUTURE DEPENDS ON AN INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for a truly independent judiciary, warning that no nation can achieve sustainable development without a justice system free from external influence.
Jonathan stressed that the judiciary remains one of the most critical pillars of democracy, responsible for protecting citizens’ rights, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring accountability in governance.
According to the former president, a strong and independent judicial system is essential for nation-building, political stability, economic growth, and public confidence in democratic institutions.
He noted that when courts are allowed to function without interference, citizens are more likely to trust government institutions and seek lawful means of resolving disputes.
Jonathan also urged stakeholders to continue supporting reforms aimed at strengthening the judiciary and preserving its integrity.
His remarks come amid ongoing national conversations about judicial independence, constitutional democracy, and the role of the courts in safeguarding Nigeria’s future.
