Petrol prices across Nigeria have spiked sharply as tensions escalate in the Middle East and a strike by tanker drivers disrupts local supply chains.

Depot operators have raised the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), citing rising crude oil costs driven by the Israel-Iran conflict, as well as ongoing disruptions from tanker driver protests along the Lekki-Epe corridor in Lagos.

Reacting to the price surge, Festus Osifo, President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), criticized oil marketers for profiteering, alleging that they are using the crisis as an excuse to exploit consumers.

> “The current petrol price should be between ₦700 and ₦750 per litre,” Osifo insisted, warning marketers against unnecessary inflation.
