Thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran on Wednesday for the funeral of a senior Revolutionary Guards naval commander killed in a recent Israeli strike, with mourners pledging to continue resistance despite rising tensions.

The procession drew large crowds, including military officials, government representatives and civilians, many of whom expressed defiance and solidarity amid the escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Chants and messages during the ceremony emphasised a commitment to “resist until the end,” reflecting strong public sentiment following the commander’s death. The event also served as a symbolic show of unity at a time of heightened geopolitical strain.

The funeral coincided with the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Republic, established on April 1, 1979, after the revolution that overthrew the last shah and ended centuries of monarchy in Iran.

Analysts say the timing of the ceremony added deeper national significance, reinforcing themes of resilience and resistance rooted in the country’s history.

The development comes amid continued military activity and diplomatic tensions in the region, with global leaders urging restraint to prevent further escalation.

Observers note that such events often influence public morale and political messaging during periods of conflict.
