Inter Miami can dream of upsetting PSG – Mascherano
Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano says his team can dare to dream of upsetting European champions Paris Saint-Germain when they clash in the Club World Cup last 16 on Sunday, even though he admits PSG are a level above.
Led by Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, Inter Miami surprised many by advancing from the group stage. However, facing the newly crowned Champions League winners in Atlanta remains a “huge challenge,” Mascherano acknowledged during a press conference on Saturday.
> “We will try to be up to the standard, we will try to do things in the best way we can, and why can’t we dream of being able to shock them?” Mascherano said.
“My message to the players is that this is not over yet; there is a game to be played. We know we’re up against one of the best teams in the world, but this is football.”
Despite PSG being overwhelming favourites, Mascherano insisted Miami won’t surrender before kickoff at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
> “We are not naive; we know the general feeling is that we are the weaker team,” he admitted. “But that doesn’t mean they can write us off in advance. We will fight—that’s what it’s about. The beautiful thing is that we earned the right to play this game.”
