Imo Begins Payment of ₦104,000 Minimum Wage to Workers

The Imo State Government has commenced payment of the new ₦104,000 minimum wage to its workforce, fulfilling Governor Hope Uzodimma’s earlier pledge to improve the earnings and welfare of civil servants in the state.
Reports indicate that state employees have begun receiving salary alerts reflecting the new wage structure, sparking excitement and appreciation toward the governor for keeping his word.
Governor Uzodimma had previously approved a new salary scale which includes ₦104,000 for entry-level government workers, ₦513,000 for medical doctors, and ₦220,000 as the starting salary for lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions.
With the implementation, Imo now ranks as the state offering the highest minimum wage in Nigeria, surpassing Lagos, which pays ₦88,000; Rivers, ₦85,000; and both Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa, ₦80,000 each.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, said the new wage policy would stimulate the state’s economy, boost productivity, and further enhance the welfare of workers.
