Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports that ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar could hijack the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obi described Atiku as a “dear elder brother and respected leader”, insisting he has no fear over the former vice president’s political moves.

The clarification follows reports of Atiku’s loyalists defecting from the PDP to the ADC coalition, fueling speculations of a possible takeover.

Atiku had recently told the BBC Hausa that he would only step aside if defeated at the ADC primaries — a statement that stirred fresh political debate.

Reacting, Obi maintained that the coalition was about national rescue, not rivalry, saying:

“All well-meaning people will have to come together to rescue the country.”

Obi, who hinted at his readiness to run for president in 2027, emphasized that competence, capacity, and sincerity of purpose should guide voters’ choices.

He expressed confidence in his ability to transform Nigeria within four years, if given the opportunity.
