Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded firmly to critics who have questioned his frequent public dancing, saying he will continue to dance because it does not interfere with his duties as governor.

Governor Adeleke, widely known in public life as “the dancing governor,” made the comments during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday. He said his energetic dancing is simply part of who he is — a way to relax and praise God — and should not be mistaken for a lack of seriousness in office.

“I will keep dancing because I love to dance and I love to praise my God,” Adeleke said. “Everybody has their own way of relaxing. My hobby is to dance and praise my God, and that does not affect my work. I still do my work, and governance should be judged by delivery and impact, not dancing.”

The governor’s remarks come amid renewed public debate after a viral video showed him briefly breaking into song and dance during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife in Ile-Ife, an episode that drew mixed reactions on social media. Some critics said it undercut the dignity of his office, while supporters defended his personal expression.

Adeleke, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, emphasized that his personal style remains separate from his performance in public office. He has secured the Accord Party’s ticket as its governorship candidate for the August 8, 2026 election.

Governance analysts and observers say the episode continues the broader national conversation about how public figures balance individual personality and public responsibilities, especially in highly visible leadership roles.
