The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has urged newly recruited constables across Nigeria to serve with empathy, fairness, and integrity as they begin their policing careers.

Egbetokun gave the charge during the passing-out parades held at various Police Training Schools nationwide, including those in Ogun and Imo States, where 469 constables graduated after six months of intensive training.

At the Iperu-Remo Training School in Ogun State, where 205 recruits completed their course, the IGP—represented by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo—reminded the officers to uphold professionalism, courage, loyalty, and discipline in the discharge of their duties.

“The recruits have been trained under a comprehensive curriculum emphasising community partnership, intelligence-led policing, respect for human rights, and the judicious use of authority,” Egbetokun said.

“With this batch, the Force has now passed out 20,000 constables under my leadership.”

He also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional constables in the coming years to strengthen internal security and address manpower shortages.

The IGP added that the new officers would be deployed to their states of origin under the Force’s community-oriented policing strategy to enhance local trust and intelligence gathering.

The Commandant of the Iperu Training School, Aderemi Yusuf, praised the recruits for their dedication, stating that they received training in professional ethics, law, liberal studies, drills, and physical fitness.

Awards were presented to outstanding recruits, including Oludare Olubusola, Farombi Victor, Sotunde Kolade, and Akinwande Tomiwa, while Akinsoji Suliat emerged Best in Drill.

In a similar ceremony at the Nekede Training School in Imo State, 264 constables—including 159 from Imo and 105 from Abia—also graduated.

Represented by CP Aboki Danjuma, the IGP commended the recruits’ discipline and urged them to uphold the Force’s core values.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, represented by CSP Shaba Adamu, congratulated the officers, describing policing as “a sacred duty to protect lives and defend justice.”

The event featured parade marches, award presentations, and goodwill messages from security agencies, traditional rulers, and family members.
