The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has charged police officers recently called to the Nigerian Bar to deploy their legal expertise in defending the Nigeria Police Force with professionalism, courage, and integrity.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP gave the directive while receiving the newly qualified lawyers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Among the officers was Deputy Superintendent of Police Idachaba Laraba, who received special recognition from the police chief for graduating with First Class honours from the Nigerian Law School.

Egbetokun described their call to the Bar as not just a personal milestone but also a valuable addition to the Nigeria Police Force. He reminded them that police powers must always be exercised within the boundaries of the law and urged them to act as “custodians of legal knowledge” within the institution.

“You are not just returning as police officers, but as legal professionals. Your knowledge must be used to strengthen the Force and to better serve Nigerians,” the IGP said.

The newly qualified police lawyers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend law school and acknowledged the IGP’s unwavering support for their professional development.
