The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed a 10-count charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over allegations of corruption, money laundering and abuse of office during his tenure.
According to court documents, the anti-graft agency accused the former governor of unlawfully receiving about ₦289 million and $797,900 in transactions it described as illegal and inconsistent with public service regulations. The charges were reportedly filed before a competent court as part of ongoing investigations into financial activities linked to his administration.
ICPC officials stated that the case forms part of broader efforts to promote accountability and transparency in public office, emphasising that due legal processes would be followed in prosecuting the matter.
Legal representatives for the former governor are expected to respond to the allegations during court proceedings, while observers note that the outcome could have implications for political and governance debates in Kaduna State and beyond.
Anti-corruption advocates have called for a fair and transparent trial, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all parties are given adequate opportunity to present their cases.
The development adds to a series of legal and political issues involving former public office holders as authorities intensify scrutiny of past administrative actions.
