Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has issued his first public statement since assuming office, calling for national unity while vowing retaliation following the devastating conflict that rocked the country.

In an emotional address, Khamenei revealed that he had suffered personal losses during the recent hostilities, stating that both his father and his wife were killed in attacks linked to the escalating war. He described the period as one of the most painful in his life but insisted that Iran would emerge stronger.

The new leader urged Iranians to remain steadfast and united in the face of external threats, stressing that the country’s sovereignty and dignity must be defended at all costs. He warned that those responsible for the attacks would face consequences, signalling a potentially tougher stance in Tehran’s foreign policy direction.

Khamenei assumed leadership earlier this month after the Assembly of Experts confirmed his appointment following the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, during the conflict.

Observers say his emergence marks a significant turning point in Iran’s political landscape, with expectations that his leadership style and response to ongoing tensions could shape the region’s security dynamics in the coming months.

Meanwhile, regional and global powers continue to monitor developments closely amid fears that renewed threats of retaliation could further escalate instability across the Middle East.
