How Cabal Secretly Sent Memos to Buhari – Ex-Chief of Staff Gambari
Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, former Chief of Staff to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has disclosed how certain insiders in the presidency bypassed official procedures to send memos directly to the president.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Friday, Gambari explained that although Buhari had instructed that all memos be routed through his office, some appointees took advantage of the president’s informal style and “weak moments” to sneak in documents without his knowledge.
“They knew his weak moment, they knew when and how to smuggle memos because they interacted with him informally,” Gambari revealed.
Gambari, who took over the Chief of Staff role in May 2020 after the death of Abba Kyari, said even high-ranking officials like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo followed protocol by routing memos through him. However, others exploited Buhari’s openness to informal interactions.
“Our people still got their memos to him from behind because they knew who to use. He never stopped them. But the advantage I had was that those memos eventually returned to me,” he added.
Gambari also addressed long-standing claims of a powerful “cabal” influencing decisions in Buhari’s presidency, confirming there were insiders who operated beyond formal structures.
