There are indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may adopt a consensus arrangement in selecting its governorship candidates in some South-West states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party sources suggest that prominent figures being considered under the proposed arrangement include the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat; Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for Ogun State; and a leading political figure identified as Alli for the Oyo State governorship race.

Insiders within the party say discussions on consensus candidacies are part of efforts to prevent internal divisions, strengthen party unity and streamline preparations for the electoral contests. The approach, they noted, could help reduce the likelihood of contentious primaries and promote coordinated campaign strategies.

However, political observers caution that consensus arrangements often require broad consultations among stakeholders to ensure acceptance by party members and supporters at the grassroots level.

While the party leadership has yet to make an official announcement, analysts say the reported move reflects increasing strategic positioning as political actors begin to plan for the 2027 elections.

Supporters of the potential aspirants have expressed optimism about their prospects, highlighting their experience and contributions to governance and party development.
