Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has strongly rejected reports of his suspension by a faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Julius Abure, describing it as a “joke taken too far” and a direct assault on democracy.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti dismissed the suspension as invalid, pointing to a Supreme Court ruling that confirmed Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

“The highest court in the land, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has clearly and unequivocally ruled that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party,” Otti stated.

He further emphasized that the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee has also stripped Abure of any authority to act on behalf of the party.

Governor Otti called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest Julius Abure for alleged impersonation, noting that Abure acted unlawfully by issuing suspension notices in a capacity he no longer holds.

According to Otti, Abure’s move came just hours after he was summoned by a disciplinary committee of the caretaker leadership to answer to allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, impersonation, and anti-party activities.

“This hasty announcement of suspensions is nothing more than a desperate attempt by Abure to divert attention from the serious charges he is facing,” Otti added.

He urged Nigerians and party members to ignore the suspension claims and remain focused on the party’s core objectives.
