Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has defended his recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the move was made in the best interest of the stateโ€™s growth and development.
Speaking during a meeting with political stakeholders in Kano, the governor explained that aligning with the ruling party at the federal level would help unlock greater opportunities for infrastructure projects, economic expansion, and improved access to federal support.
According to him, the decision was not motivated by personal ambition but by a strategic desire to accelerate development across key sectors, including healthcare, education, and transportation. Yusuf noted that closer collaboration with the Federal Government would enable Kano to attract more investments and fast-track ongoing projects.
The governor urged residents and political supporters to remain calm and view the defection as a step toward unity and progress, stressing that his administration remains committed to delivering campaign promises regardless of party affiliation.
However, the move has generated mixed reactions within the political space, with some NNPP loyalists expressing disappointment, while APC leaders welcomed the governor, describing his entry into the party as a boost to its strength in the North-West.
Yusuf assured citizens that governance and service delivery would remain his top priorities, adding that political differences should not hinder the collective goal of improving the welfare of Kano people.
