Gombe Approves ₦6.56bn to Clear Gratuity Backlog for Retirees

In a major move to enhance workers’ welfare and fulfil its financial obligations to retired civil servants, the Gombe State Government has approved the release of ₦6.563 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
The approval was granted during the 48th State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House in Gombe.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Gambo Magaji, disclosed that the funds would be disbursed in three phases.
According to him, ₦1.954 billion has been allocated for retirees of 2021 and will be paid in October 2025. A second tranche of ₦2.267 billion is set aside for 2022 retirees and will be paid in November. The final tranche will cater to retirees from 2023, with further details on its disbursement expected to be released soon.
The commissioner emphasized that the move demonstrates the Yahaya administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of both serving and retired government workers.
This intervention is expected to provide much-needed relief to hundreds of retirees who have waited years to receive their entitlements.
