Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project, confirming that about 75 percent of the critical piling work has been completed.

Fubara made the remarks on Monday during an inspection tour of the 12.5-kilometre project, which links Port Harcourt to several Kalabari communities across the sea.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor journeyed by boat from the Rumuolumeni jetty in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area to assess the level of work done.

The project, awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Limited on May 15, 2024, has an initial 32-month completion timeline.

Governor Fubara commended the contractors for their dedication, describing the progress as a reflection of “hard work and commitment to excellence.”

“The first phase of the project takes us to Bakana and involves four major river-crossing bridges and several deck-on-pile structures. Almost 75 percent of the piling job, which is the most critical part, has been achieved,” he said.

He acknowledged the engineering challenges posed by the marine terrain but reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule.

The governor also underscored the project’s economic importance, noting that it will boost connectivity and trade between Kalabari communities and Port Harcourt.

“This is a key project that will transform the lives of the Kalabari people. By the grace of God, in the next six months, we might be driving across the bridge,” he added.

The Trans-Kalabari Road, valued at ₦222.1 billion, was approved by the State Executive Council in May 2024 and is being funded through savings from the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
