FRSC STRPS UP PATROLS TO TACKLE WRONG – WAY DRIVING ON LAGOS – IBADAN EXPRESSWAY
The Federal Road Safety Corps has promised to intensify patrols on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to deal with those driving against traffic and other route violations.
Under what he called special intervention on road violations, Olajide stated that the FRSC will increase its patrols on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor to deal with those driving against on-coming vehicles.
“Last Thursday, there was a special intervention on road violations organised by the FRSC Corridor 1 Command, that is, from Lagos down to Ibadan. The intervention done alongside some other sister agencies was specifically for road violations, like one-way.
“This will be done not only daily, it will be done on special occasions. We do have special patrols, which are under the coverage of the Corridor Commander. We’ll intensify that,” Olajide said.
He pointed out that the move was in line with the Corps’ resolve to ensure road safety and reduce road crashes to their barest minimum.
He identified human factors as a reason for several crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
FRSC officials have mentioned some of those human factors including speeding, wrongful overtaking, drunk driving, overloading, use of phones on the wheels, impatience, traffic violation and use of expired tyres.
In the event of major road crashes, Olajide said the FRSC usually collaborated with Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency to restore smooth thoroughfare on the road.
He attributed the quick buildup of traffic whenever there is a road crash to the high volume of traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He, however, said the corps, working alongside other agencies, was committed to quickly restoring smooth passage on the road while it also diverts traffic to other routes to clear the crash site.
Olajide was accompanied on the visit by the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Outpost, Ogunbanjo Jimmy and the Protocol Officer, Opeyemi Aladesiun.
