Focus on Nigerians, Not 2027 – ADC Tells APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly prioritizing the 2027 elections over addressing the pressing challenges facing Nigerians.
In a statement on Wednesday, the ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, criticized the APC for engaging in premature campaign activities, including public endorsements and political billboards promoting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The party described the move as both insensitive and illegal, especially given the current economic hardship in the country.
This comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned political parties and aspirants against early campaigns, stating that no official timetable has been released for the 2027 general elections. According to INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, such actions violate the Electoral Act, which prohibits electioneering more than 150 days before the polls.
Abdullahi said while Nigerians grapple with rising inflation, skyrocketing petrol prices, a weakened naira, and increasing insecurity, the APC is “hoisting billboards instead of fixing the nation’s broken economy.”
