FG Introduces Revised Curricula for Primary, Secondary, Technical Schools

The Federal Government has unveiled revised curricula for basic, senior secondary and technical education to equip Nigerian learners with skills for a fast-changing world.
A statement from the Ministry of Education, signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, said the review was announced in Abuja by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa.
The review, carried out in partnership with agencies such as the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, the Universal Basic Education Commission, the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, and the National Board for Technical Education, seeks to reduce content overload and improve learning outcomes.
Prof. Ahmad explained that the changes go beyond cutting subjects, aiming instead to strengthen content and promote deeper learning.
Under the new structure:
Pupils in Primary 1–3 will study 9–10 subjects.
Pupils in Primary 4–6 will take 10–12 subjects.
Junior secondary students may offer 12–14 subjects.
Senior secondary students will take 8–9 subjects.
Technical school students will take 9–11 subjects.
“The revised curricula will reduce overload and create more time for effective learning,” Ahmad said, adding that the reform reflects the government’s commitment to quality and practical education.
The ministry commended stakeholders for their contributions and assured that implementation would be closely monitored to ensure a smooth transition across schools nationwide.
