The Federal Government has signalled a major shift in Nigeria’s national security doctrine, declaring that any armed group operating outside the authority of the state will henceforth be treated as a terrorist organisation.
This position was articulated by Sunday Dare, who described the policy direction as a clear break from past ambiguities that allowed violent non-state actors to hide behind political, ethnic, or ideological labels.
According to Dare, the new stance removes all forms of euphemism from security discourse and establishes a firm, uncompromising framework for addressing insecurity across the country.
“On national security, the speech abandons euphemism entirely. The declaration that any armed group operating outside state authority will be regarded as terrorists is a doctrinal reset. It removes political, ethnic, or semantic cover from violent non-state actors,” Dare said.
