FG Commissions Four Water Projects in Ogoniland, Reaffirms Clean-Up Pledge

The Federal Government has commissioned four new water projects in Ogoniland as part of its efforts to address public health concerns and implement the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report.
The projects, located in Bodo (Gokana LGA), Eteo (Eleme LGA), Uegwere-Boue, and Taabaa (Khana LGA), bring the number of Ogoni communities with access to reticulated potable water to 40, according to the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP). A new HYPREP Area Office was also opened in Kpor, Gokana LGA, to strengthen community engagement.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, described the development as a step toward restoring the dignity of the Ogoni people after decades of oil pollution, stressing that clean water is a fundamental human right. He urged communities to protect the facilities from vandalism and reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to fully implementing the UNEP report and ensuring sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
