Federal Government Insists Nnamdi Kanu Must Face Terrorism Charges

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its stance that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), must stand trial for terrorism-related charges brought against him.
On Friday, government counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), urged the court to dismiss Kanu’s “no-case submission”, insisting that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence requiring the IPOB leader to open his defence.
Kanu is currently facing a seven-count charge of terrorism, filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
Awomolo, addressing Justice James Omotosho, described Kanu’s no-case submission as “misplaced and misconceived.” He argued that Kanu’s Radio Biafra broadcasts, in which he declared plans to secede from Nigeria and establish the Republic of Biafra, posed a serious national security threat.
> “These were not idle threats. They were deliberate and dangerous declarations that instilled fear in citizens,” Awomolo said.
