FCTA Seizes Vehicles with Fake Tinted Permits Despite IGP’s October Deadline

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has continued its crackdown on vehicles with illegal tinted glass permits, saying most of the permits in circulation are fake and linked to criminal activities.
The Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji of the Command and Control Unit, explained during a citywide sanitation exercise on Monday that the clampdown was necessary to protect residents.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier set October 2025 as the deadline for enforcing the ban on tinted permits, giving motorists more time to regularise their documents. However, the FCTA had already impounded over 700 vehicles in Abuja as of August 19, 2025, for using illegal tints and forged permits.
Olumuji noted that many crimes in Abuja, including “one-chance” robberies, were carried out with vehicles using illegal tinted glasses.
He said, “Some of the permits seized were forged, and if someone has the ability to fake such documents, they can also commit crimes. That is why we cannot wait until October before taking action.”
