Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, of being responsible for what he described as the near-collapse of the opposition party.

Fayose made the allegation while reacting to the lingering internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the actions and decisions of some leaders before and after the 2023 general elections weakened the party and alienated key stakeholders.

According to Fayose, Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate and the manner in which the process was handled created deep divisions within the PDP. He also accused Tambuwal of betraying trust during the party’s presidential primary, claiming his role contributed significantly to the crisis that followed.

The former governor argued that the fallout from the 2023 election has left the PDP struggling to reposition itself as a viable opposition, warning that the party risks total collapse if lessons are not learned and internal reconciliation is not urgently pursued.

Fayose, a longtime critic of Atiku’s presidential ambition, reiterated that the PDP ignored zoning arrangements and internal balance, a move he said cost the party dearly at the polls.

Reacting in the past, leaders loyal to Atiku and Tambuwal have dismissed similar accusations, insisting that broader political factors, not individuals, were responsible for the PDP’s electoral defeat and post-election challenges.

The PDP has continued to battle leadership disputes, defections, and internal disagreements as it prepares for future elections.
