Fayemi hails Awolowo’s legacy
Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has paid glowing tribute to the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most visionary leaders whose legacy continues to shape the country’s development.
Fayemi made the remarks while reflecting on Awolowo’s contributions to governance, education, and social welfare, noting that the late leader’s policies remain a reference point for progressive leadership in Nigeria.
According to the former governor, Awolowo’s introduction of free education, rural development programmes, and social reforms during his time as Premier of the Western Region laid the foundation for many of the region’s developmental strides.
Fayemi said Awolowo’s leadership style demonstrated courage, discipline, and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people, adding that his ideas and principles continue to inspire new generations of leaders.
He urged Nigerian leaders to draw lessons from Awolowo’s legacy by prioritising policies that promote human development, good governance, and inclusive growth.
Fayemi further stated that Awolowo’s vision for Nigeria went beyond politics, emphasising education, economic empowerment, and strong institutions as key pillars for national progress.
He described Awolowo as a leader whose impact transcended his time, noting that his ideals remain relevant in addressing many of Nigeria’s present-day challenges.
