Family Opposes Plan to Install Female Regent in Ekiti Community

The Abaatiba Chieftaincy House of Aramoko Ekiti has strongly rejected moves to appoint a female regent to oversee the Alara of Aramoko throne following the passing of the immediate past monarch, Oba Olu Adegoke Adeyemi.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday and signed by Busuyi Ogunlana, the family insisted that, by long-standing tradition, the regent of the Alara stool has always been selected from the Abaatiba family. The move to install the late monarch’s daughter, they said, contradicts established customs and could plunge the community into crisis.
“The decision to make the daughter of the late Alara the regent of Aramoko is alien to our tradition and capable of setting the town on fire,” the statement read.
Calling for urgent intervention, the family appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to step in and caution those “bent on disrupting peace for selfish interests.”
