A former Police Public Relations Officer has cautioned Nigerians against pleading for the release of individuals accused or convicted of criminal offences, describing the practice as shameful and harmful to the fight against crime.
The former police spokesman argued that efforts to secure freedom for criminals undermine justice, weaken law enforcement, and send the wrong message to victims and society.
According to him, those who use influence, connections, or public campaigns to seek leniency for criminal suspects risk encouraging lawlessness and frustrating efforts to maintain law and order.
He stressed that Nigerians must stand firmly against criminality regardless of personal relationships, ethnic ties, or political affiliations, insisting that anyone found guilty of breaking the law should face the consequences.
The security expert also warned that continuously defending offenders could make society appear tolerant of crime and discourage security agencies from carrying out their duties effectively.
His remarks have sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the role of public pressure, influence, and accountability in the justice system.
