A group of 2023 Enugu State House of Assembly candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Governor Peter Mbah to defect to the ruling party before the 2027 general elections, saying the move would connect the state “to the national grid of politics.”
In a letter dated August 11, 2025, and presented at a press briefing, the group’s coordinator, Godwin Onwusi — who contested the Udi North Constituency seat — said opposition politics had done them “more harm than good.”
They praised Mbah’s “visionary leadership” and “unprecedented developmental strides” in less than two years in office, claiming his policies align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The candidates argued that Mbah’s defection would strengthen the APC’s chances in the state and foster a closer relationship with the Federal Government.
