Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revoked all illegal land titles at the Tropicana Layout in Uyo to restore the area’s original master plan.

Speaking to Government House correspondents after inspecting the site allocated for the proposed ARISE Shopping City on Tuesday, Eno warned individuals against encroaching on or acquiring government land for private purposes.

“Even though the land has not been put to use for years, there have been so many encroachments. That is why I came here to revoke every title and activity that deviated from the original master plan,” he said.

The governor explained that the decision aligns with his administration’s vision to develop a world-class tourism hub for the state. He noted that his government is completing projects such as the 5,000-seat Ibom International Convention Centre and the 200-room Ibom International Hotel, while initiating the Ibom International Shopping City to complement the ecosystem.

“We are creating a tourism ecosystem for the state. Past administrations laid the foundation, and we are building on it to better Akwa Ibom,” Eno stated.

Highlighting tourism as the state’s economic strength, he said,

“We have all the infrastructure to become Nigeria’s top tourist destination. Whether in Uyo, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, or Oron, we will develop our tourism assets—covering culture, heritage, medical, agricultural, and aviation sectors—into a comprehensive master plan.”

Eno added that the ARISE Shopping City project, designed to attract international brands, would serve as a one-stop destination for tourists to shop, lodge, and relax.
