Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned that Permanent Secretaries who violated civil service rules and engaged in illegal practices during the six-month emergency rule in the state will face sanctions.

Fubara gave the warning on Friday while swearing in Austin Ezekiel-Hart as a new Permanent Secretary at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

He charged Ezekiel-Hart to uphold professionalism, maintain the values of the civil service, and resist any act of illegality while carrying out his duties.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to due process and integrity, emphasizing that the civil service must remain the foundation of good governance.

Reflecting on the challenges encountered during the emergency rule, Fubara expressed concern that some Permanent Secretaries failed in their duty to protect due process and instead took actions that undermined the principles of the service.
