Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a bold call for the removal of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, warning that the party’s continued stay in power poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and future.

Speaking during a grassroots mobilisation visit to Sokoto State on Saturday, El-Rufai described the APC as “incompetent and clannish,” blaming it for the country’s worsening governance and division.

“The APC government has failed the people. If we allow them another term, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be destroyed,” El-Rufai said during meetings with youth groups, women, and political stakeholders from all 23 local government areas of the state.

He stressed the need for urgent political rescue, noting, “I didn’t join politics to enrich myself but to serve. And when a government fails its people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to speak out and act.”

El-Rufai revealed that the opposition coalition’s adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 elections was a strategic step to provide a credible alternative focused on national unity and progress, rather than personal ambition.

Also speaking at the event, Sokoto opposition leader Abubakar Gada pledged the coalition’s commitment to delivering competent and people-centered leadership at both state and federal levels.
