Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has approved the disbursement of N596.6 million as car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff of public secondary schools in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday. He explained that the initiative was aimed at improving workers’ welfare and boosting their morale.

According to him, N381.5 million will go to 382 beneficiaries as car loans, while N215.1 million will be disbursed as housing loans to 425 beneficiaries. The loans, he said, reflected the 100 per cent increase earlier approved by the governor.

Boluwade commended Oyebanji for augmenting the commission’s revolving loan fund to accommodate the new disbursement rate. He advised beneficiaries to use the funds for the intended purposes, noting that repayment would be deducted directly from their salaries.

The governor had earlier, during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, highlighted several interventions to support workers, including the disbursement of N400 million in loans to 1,447 staff, recruitment of 930 subject teachers, employment of 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers, as well as approval of career progression for primary school teachers up to Grade Level 16.

He also listed infrastructure upgrades, capacity development programmes, and the implementation of the minimum wage among his administration’s achievements in the education sector.
