Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has granted pardon to 12 inmates in correctional facilities across the state as part of activities marking the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The gesture, according to government officials, is aimed at promoting compassion, reconciliation and the reintegration of reformed individuals into society. The beneficiaries were said to have been considered for clemency based on recommendations from relevant authorities, including correctional service officials and advisory committees on the prerogative of mercy.

Authorities explained that factors such as good conduct, length of time served and evidence of rehabilitation were taken into account before the final decision was made.

Governor Namadi urged the pardoned inmates to make positive use of the opportunity by embracing lawful and productive lifestyles, while assuring them of the state government’s support in facilitating their reintegration.

He also called on community leaders and families to support returning inmates, emphasising the importance of acceptance and guidance in preventing recidivism.

Officials noted that the pardon aligns with efforts to decongest correctional facilities and promote restorative justice initiatives within the state.

The governor further congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid celebration and encouraged residents to uphold values of peace, unity and mutual understanding.
