Edo Kidnap: Catholic Diocese Pleads for Release of Two Seminarians

The Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Edo State, has urged President Bola Tinubu, Governor Monday Okpebholo, and security agencies to help secure the release of two seminarians kidnapped from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivhianokpodi Agenebode, Etsako East, on July 10, 2025.
The boys have spent 35 days in captivity. A recent viral video showed them holding dried human skulls and pleading for funds for their release.
In a statement, the diocese’s communication director, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, said Bishop Gabriel Dunia and the church have been traumatised by the ordeal. “I feel personally hurt and disturbed. We have been praying since their kidnapping, and again I call on everyone to pray with us,” he said.
Three students were abducted in the attack, which claimed the life of a security guard. One was freed days later due to injuries, while two remain with their captors.
