The Ebonyi State Government has ordered the demolition of several shrines in Amasiri community, Afikpo North Local Government Area, following a violent conflict that reportedly led to gruesome killings in the area.

The decision was announced after the state government condemned the incident and vowed to take decisive action against individuals and practices linked to the violence.

According to government officials, the shrines were believed to be associated with activities that contributed to the crisis in the community. Authorities said the demolition was part of efforts to restore peace, prevent further violence, and send a strong warning against criminal acts carried out under the guise of traditional practices.

Officials also confirmed that security agencies have been deployed to the community to maintain law and order while investigations into the killings continue.

The state government stressed that anyone found responsible for the violence would be brought to justice.

Community leaders and residents were urged to cooperate with security operatives and avoid actions that could escalate tensions in the area.

The government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ebonyi State, noting that it would not tolerate any activity capable of threatening public safety.

Authorities also called on residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

The demolition of the shrines, according to the government, is part of broader measures aimed at restoring normalcy and preventing a recurrence of the violent incident in the community.

Further updates are expected as investigations into the killings continue.
