One month after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, his domestic staff in Daura say they are still struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Buhari, who died in London on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. His workers described him as more than an employer — calling him a mentor, friend, and guardian.

“Our late boss was more than our employer; he was like family,” one worker told The PUNCH. “This one month without him has been a cold and empty world for us.”

They recalled his humility and personal connection, often attending their family events such as naming ceremonies and condolence visits, staying for hours to pray and offer comfort.

A visit to Buhari’s residence revealed his gravesite decorated in green and white — the colours of the Nigerian flag. The once-busy area around his home has now returned to its usual calm, with a lighter security presence compared to the days immediately after his burial.
