Dogara: Leave Me Out of 2027 Running Mate Permutations — Tinubu Will Decide What’s Best
Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged political actors to stop dragging his name into permutations over President Bola Tinubu’s possible running mate for the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, Dogara said decisions around power-sharing, zoning, and religious balance should be driven by justice, fairness, and national interest, not fear, pressure, or political anxiety.
Reacting to growing speculation that Vice-President Kashim Shettima could be dropped ahead of 2027, the Christian-born politician stressed that such choices are entirely the president’s prerogative.
“The president will decide what is best,” Dogara said, adding that leadership decisions must reflect inclusiveness and equity if Nigeria is to truly work for all its citizens.
Dogara cautioned against weaponising religion or identity in political calculations, noting that governance should focus on competence, unity, and fairness rather than appeasing sectional sentiments.
He concluded that building a stable nation requires leaders who prioritise justice over political convenience, insisting that inclusiveness remains key to national cohesion.
