Diesel tanker falls on Delta bridge, spills content
A diesel tanker has fallen at a portion of the Ekpan bridge in Warri, Delta state, spilling its contents.
At press time there was heavy traffic on roads linking the bridge because of the incident with some persons scooping diesel into jerrycans.
There was also no record of casualty at the time of this report but Vanguard gathered that some firefighting vehicles hurriedly mobilized to the scene.
Appeal to those scooping the diesel, fell on deaf ears as they continued to fill their jerrycans, racing to keep them at secured places and coming with new ones.
” Nigerians will never learn lessons from past bitter situations when people were scooping fuel from fallen tankers and there was an inferno that consumed them. See how they are refusing to heed to appeals not to scoop the product “, an onlooker said.
Another also recalled a similar incident at Koko junction not too long ago where those scooping fuel from a fallen tanker lost their lives from a resultant inferno.
Meantime, some passengers trapped in the hold-up caused by the broken down tanker were heard expressing gratitude to God that the content was not fuel.
” Thank God it’s not fuel. By now we would have been talking of human casualties. And the rain has also helped the situation in its way “, one of them said.
Motorists were seen avoiding the bridge, thus swelling vehicular traffic beneath it.
