The Federal Government has affirmed that political figures who defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be exempted from ongoing or future corruption investigations.

This assurance was given by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), in response to recent allegations made by a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Fagbemi reiterated the Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to the rule of law and its resolve to pursue the anti-corruption agenda without favoritism, regardless of political affiliations.

His comments were in reaction to a claim by Atiku’s aide, Paul Ibe, who alleged that officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Ministry of Justice had met with a former and a sitting governor from the South-South region just 48 hours before their defection to the APC.

The AGF dismissed the claim as false and baseless, describing it as a “figment of Mr. Ibe’s imagination.”
