Hezekiah Bamiji, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has criticized the defection of Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a political miscalculation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Bamiji said the senators were misled by rumors suggesting that Governor Adeleke planned to defect to the APC. “They believed the governor was moving and wanted to act faster,” he stated.

Bamiji emphasized that Adeleke remains the PDP leader in Osun and the lawmakers should have consulted him and their constituents before defecting. “Even if the governor was going to switch parties, did they ask him? The APC set a trap for them, and they fell into it,” he said.

He added that Governor Adeleke does not need to join the APC to deliver effective governance in Osun State.

The defection of Fadahunsi and Fadeyi was part of a broader political shift that saw four PDP senators join the APC, raising the ruling party’s Senate majority to 70. The PDP now holds 28 seats.

Speculation about Adeleke’s political future has grown following a June 3 visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos with his brother Adedeji Adeleke and nephew, music star Davido.
