Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asking the agency to investigate alleged acts of corruption involving Farouk Ahmed, a former chief executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

In the petition submitted through his legal representatives, Dangote accused Ahmed of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and living beyond his legitimate means. The industrialist urged the EFCC to probe the allegations thoroughly and take appropriate action in line with the law.

The move comes weeks after Dangote withdrew a similar petition earlier filed before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). In December 2025, Dangote had approached the ICPC through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, alleging corruption and financial impropriety against the former regulator chief.

Although reasons for the withdrawal of the ICPC petition were not formally disclosed, sources familiar with the matter said Dangote opted to pursue the allegations through the EFCC, which has broader jurisdiction over financial crimes, including money laundering and illicit enrichment.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the EFCC nor Farouk Ahmed had issued an official response to the petition. The development has, however, sparked fresh debate within the oil and gas sector, particularly around regulatory oversight and accountability in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry.
