The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working closely with the private sector to modernise trade operations and improve border management nationwide.

Adeniyi gave this assurance during a courtesy visit by the new leadership of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) on August 21, 2025, in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Customs boss—who was recently elected Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council—highlighted the importance of strong collaboration with businesses to align Nigeria’s customs operations with global best practices.

“The WCO emphasises that a modern customs administration must build strong partnerships with the private sector. We must see them as partners, understand their challenges, and ensure our operations support their businesses,” Adeniyi stated.

He explained that closer cooperation would strengthen Nigeria’s trade facilitation ecosystem, enhance efficiency, and promote economic growth.

In his remarks, NACCIMA President, Jani Ibrahim, congratulated Adeniyi on his election as WCO Council Chair, describing it as proof of Nigeria’s growing influence in global trade governance
