Court hears Ogun gov’s INEC declarations suit July 9
Justice Chukwujeku Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned further proceedings in a suit challenging the educational qualifications and election-related declarations of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to July 9, 2026.
The case, which centres on documents submitted by the governor to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2014, 2019 and 2023 general elections, came up for hearing on Tuesday before the court fixed a new date for continuation.
During the proceedings, legal representatives for the parties addressed preliminary issues relating to the admissibility of certain documents and the need for additional time to properly prepare their submissions. The court subsequently granted the adjournment to enable all sides to present their arguments comprehensively.
The suit is part of ongoing legal disputes arising from electoral processes in the state, with the plaintiff seeking judicial clarification on matters concerning eligibility and compliance with statutory requirements.
Observers say the outcome of the case could have implications for political developments in Ogun State, particularly as stakeholders continue to monitor the judicial process.
Meanwhile, the governor’s supporters have expressed confidence in the legal process, maintaining that the issues raised will be resolved in accordance with the law.
