A Federal High Court has dismissed the non-declaration of assets case filed against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and his two brothers.

The case, instituted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), accused Kyari and his brothers of failing to properly declare their assets as required under Nigeria’s laws.

However, the court ruled that the charge lacked sufficient legal basis and therefore struck out the case.

In its ruling, the court held that the prosecution did not establish enough grounds to sustain the allegations of false asset declaration against the defendants.

Justice presiding over the matter stated that the charges were defective and failed to meet the legal threshold required for the case to proceed.

The NDLEA had earlier filed the case as part of its broader legal actions linked to Kyari’s alleged involvement in drug-related offences.

Abba Kyari, once celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most prominent police officers, has been facing multiple legal battles in recent years following his suspension from the Nigeria Police Force.

The NDLEA had accused him and members of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of involvement in drug trafficking activities and obstruction of justice.

Despite the dismissal of the asset declaration case, Kyari is still facing other legal proceedings relating to alleged drug trafficking and related offences.

The court’s decision marks a significant development in the ongoing legal issues surrounding the embattled police officer.

Legal analysts say the ruling highlights the importance of proper legal procedures and strong evidence when prosecuting corruption and asset declaration cases.
