A High Court has adjourned the N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other parties to March 25.

The adjournment followed preliminary proceedings in the case, during which legal representatives sought additional time to address key issues raised before the court. El-Rufai is challenging actions he alleges violated his rights, including investigations and related processes initiated by anti-corruption authorities.

In the suit, the former governor is asking the court to award N1 billion in damages, claiming that the actions of the defendants caused reputational harm and undue distress. He is also seeking judicial clarification on aspects of the investigative steps taken against him.

Counsel representing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission argued that due process was followed in carrying out their statutory duties, insisting that the agency acted within the law.

The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the matter to March 25 to allow both sides to properly file and exchange relevant documents ahead of further hearing.

Legal observers say the case could attract significant public interest, given El-Rufai’s political profile and the broader implications for anti-corruption enforcement and fundamental rights protections.

Proceedings are expected to resume on the adjourned date, when the court will consider additional submissions from the parties involved.
