Controversy Trails Peter Obi’s Alliance with ADC – Claims He Was Tricked into Atiku-Backed Coalition

A new controversy has emerged over former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his recent involvement in an opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Sources indicate that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, may have been tricked into joining the coalition, which is reportedly influenced by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
There are growing signs that Atiku is positioning himself to contest the 2027 presidential election under the ADC coalition, with insiders hinting he could be a leading contender for the ticket.
During a recent event, Atiku made a bold anti-corruption promise:
> “I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished.”
Meanwhile, Obi has clarified that he has not agreed to any joint ticket with Atiku. He emphasized his commitment to a single-term presidency, if elected.
> “I have not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku. If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply… and be ready to leave office on the 28th of May, 2031 — not the 29th, but the 28th,” Obi stated.
The developments have sparked internal debate within opposition ranks and raised questions about the unity and intentions behind the coalition.
