Coalition: Abuja hotel cancels opposition event, sparks outcry

A major plan to unveil the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a unified platform for Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 elections was disrupted after Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro, Abuja, abruptly cancelled a fully paid booking just hours before the event.
Organisers were notified on Wednesday morning that the hotel could no longer host the gathering due to an unspecified “internal compliance matter.”
Dele Momodu, media personality and politician, shared a screenshot of the hotel’s apology on Instagram, expressing disappointment. The cancellation triggered sharp criticism from opposition figures, who suspect political interference aimed at stifling their efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
